Plantation, FL Parking Rules: Overnight Parking (2026)

Sec. 25-42(a) of the Plantation Code of Ordinances makes it unlawful to park or cause to be parked any camper or camping trailer on a public street, public right-of-way, or other public property within city limits, except for transient purposes not exceeding six hours. Subsection (b) defines a camper or camping trailer as any trailer or vehicle, self-propelled or not (excluding house trailers and motor homes covered separately under Sec. 25-44), under sixteen feet long that has a compartment designed for eating, sleeping, or living.

This six-hour public-street cap functions as Plantation's closest equivalent to an overnight parking restriction, since it effectively forecloses leaving a camper parked overnight on any city street. The section directs owners who want to keep such a vehicle longer to park it on their own residential property instead, subject to detailed visual-screening requirements: the vehicle must be concealed from the front street and adjoining lot lines with a wall, solid fence, or dense landscaping of at least six feet (eight feet if the vehicle exceeds ten feet in height), and vehicles over fourteen feet tall need a PZED Department screening permit costing twenty-five dollars, or fifty dollars if a deviation from the standard screening is requested.

Routine cleaning and packing, or a disabled-vehicle emergency, is allowed up to six hours without violating the section. This limit applies specifically to campers and camping trailers; the code does not separately cap how long an ordinary automobile may sit on a public street overnight.
