Long Branch, NJ Parking Rules: EV Charging (2026)

Added in 2023 by Ordinance No. 22-23 and amended February 25, 2026 by Ordinance No. 3 bars anyone from parking a vehicle in the designated spaces below unless it is an electric or hybrid vehicle: 372 Atlantic Avenue at the Community Pool, 140 Ocean Avenue North at Pier Village, 344 Broadway at City Hall, 251 Third Avenue, and 179 Belmont Avenue at the Municipal Lot. The section defines two distinct violations: parking or standing a non-electric vehicle in one of these spaces, and parking an electric vehicle there while it is not connected to the EVSE, the charging equipment, and actively drawing a charge.

In other words, an electric car cannot occupy the space as ordinary parking once it has finished charging or before it is plugged in; the space is reserved for the act of charging, not simply for EV ownership. Because the section sits within Article I, Traffic and Parking Regulations, of Chapter 325, it is administered alongside the City's other on-street parking rules rather than through the Zoning or Building Departments, and the five locations chosen span a public pool, a commercial district, City Hall, a residential avenue and a municipal parking lot, giving charging access across several parts of the City rather than concentrating it in one neighborhood.
