Long Branch, NJ Parking Rules: Preferential Parking Districts (2026)

Adopted in 1998 by Ordinance No. 1 makes it unlawful to park a motor vehicle without a valid permit on any street the governing body has marked and designated 'Resident Permit Parking Only'; the City Council sets which streets carry that designation by separate ordinance. Applications run through an online parking management system administered by the Chief of Police or a designee, and only passenger vehicles registered to a resident living in a dwelling unit on a designated street qualify. The Chief of Police controls the design and placement of the permit and the number issued in each area, and the code expressly states the total permits sold for a zone will exceed the number of available spaces, so a permit purchase never guarantees an open space.

Once approved, the resident receives an area- or zone-specific decal valid only in the zone for which it was issued. Permits listed in Schedule XXIII, § 325-49, cost $25 each, run for one calendar year, and must be renewed annually. Emergency and public utility vehicles may park in a permit area while actively performing repairs there, and contractors, service or delivery vehicles bearing a commercial name and address may park without a permit while servicing a residence inside the zone. A 2019 amendment repealed the program's former visitor-permit subsection, so the current code no longer offers a separate visitor pass.
