Mount Prospect, IL Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Section 18.1311 of the Mount Prospect Village Code sets time caps on standing for loading. A driver cannot stand a passenger vehicle longer than is necessary for loading or unloading passengers, not to exceed 3 minutes, or a freight carrying vehicle longer than is necessary to load, unload and deliver materials, not to exceed 30 minutes, in the listed places. Those places are: any public alley, during any hour of the day or night; up to 75 feet along the curb before the entrance to any hospital, motel or hotel, at any time; up to 75 feet along the curb before the entrance to a public building between 8:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.M. except on Sunday; and directly in front of the entrance to any theater at any time the theater is open for business. Subsection E makes it unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to utilize an area as a loading zone for commercial purposes when signs are posted as provided in schedule XX of the appendix to the traffic chapter.

Truck rules sit in section 18.1312. In a residence district, no person stands or parks a truck, any tractor, a semitrailer or a bus on a street longer than is necessary for the expeditious loading or unloading of that vehicle. In private parking areas in business, office, conservation recreation or office research districts, hotels and motels excepted, those vehicles stand only for expeditious loading or unloading and never longer than 2 hours.
