Piscataway, NJ Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Section 7-37 of the Township Code designates specific Loading Zones by street, side, and time, and bars anyone from parking there during the indicated hours except to load or unload goods and materials. An appended note fixes a fifty-foot minimum length for every loading zone the Township establishes and blocks any Loading Zone from being placed where standing or parking is already prohibited by statute under N.J.S.A. 39:4-138. General Chapter 7 enforcement tools reach loading zone violations directly: Section 7-3, Tow-Away, deems any vehicle parked in violation of the traffic chapter a nuisance and a menace to safe traffic regulation, letting any Police Officer arrange its removal, with the owner bearing the reasonable towing and storage costs before regaining the vehicle.

Section 7-4, Penalties, sets the default fine for a Chapter 7 violation, including an improperly parked vehicle in a loading zone, at not less than $100 nor more than $200, or imprisonment for up to 15 days, or both, plus court costs, unless a different penalty is expressly set elsewhere in state statute or the chapter. The Township's own loading zone schedule under Section 7-37 currently lists no active street-by-street designations in the code text reviewed, so the fifty-foot minimum length and the statutory standing/parking exclusion are the operative Township-wide standards governing any loading zone the Township does designate.

Enforcement runs through the Piscataway Police Department, which issues the summons and can direct removal of a vehicle that occupies a loading zone outside the permitted loading or unloading activity.
