Tuscaloosa has no blanket overnight on-street parking ban, but Code Sec. 22-10 lets police tow any vehicle left parked on a public street continuously for more than 24 hours, and Sec. 22-85(b) bans parking overnight and occupying an RV or camper on any public way.
Tuscaloosa's Code does not impose a citywide curfew-style ban on parking an ordinary, road-legal car overnight on a residential street. The practical overnight limit comes from Section 22-10, which authorizes police to remove and impound any vehicle that 'has remained parked on any public street continuously for a longer time than twenty-four (24) hours,' as well as any vehicle parked unlawfully or likely to obstruct the street. Section 22-85(b) separately makes it unlawful to park overnight and occupy a recreational vehicle, motor home, travel trailer, pickup camper, van, or other vehicle with sleeping quarters on any street, alley, or public way. Downtown and near the courthouses, two-hour time limits apply during posted hours (see Sec. 22-94 and Sec. 22-102), which effectively prohibit leaving a vehicle there overnight in a marked space. There is no permit system in Chapter 22 to extend the 24-hour street limit, so vehicles should be moved before that window closes.
A vehicle left over 24 hours continuously may be towed and impounded under Sec. 22-10; the city charges $30.00 for removal with its own equipment and $5.00 per day for storage, and the city holds a lien on the vehicle for those costs. Overnight RV occupancy under Sec. 22-85(b) is a municipal offense punishable under Sec. 1-8.
