Tuscaloosa Code Sec. 22-85 makes it unlawful to park a boat, recreational vehicle, trailer, or semitrailer on any city street, alley, or public way for storage, display for sale, or washing/servicing/repairing. Overnight occupancy of an RV or camper on a public way is separately banned.
Section 22-85 of Chapter 22 (Traffic) governs recreational vehicles and boats on Tuscaloosa's public ways. Subsection (a) makes it unlawful for any person to park a motor vehicle, boat, recreational vehicle, trailer, or semitrailer upon any street, alley, or public way of the city for the purpose of storage, displaying the vehicle for sale, or washing, servicing, or repairing it (except repairs necessitated by an emergency). Subsection (b) separately makes it unlawful to park overnight and occupy a recreational vehicle, motor home, house car, travel trailer, pickup camper, van, or other motor vehicle with sleeping quarters upon any street, alley, or public way. The ordinance does not impose a daytime hour limit for an unoccupied, road-legal, properly registered RV or boat trailer merely parked at the curb, but storing it there or living in it is prohibited. A boat trailer or utility trailer is excluded from the 'heavy truck' residential ban of Sec. 22-92, so the storage rule of Sec. 22-85 is the controlling limit for trailers on the street. These derive from Ord. No. 3327 (1991) and Ord. No. 6596 (2004).
Violations of Sec. 22-85 are municipal offenses punishable under Sec. 1-8 of the City Code. Under Sec. 22-10, a vehicle parked unlawfully or left on a public street continuously longer than 24 hours may be towed and impounded; the city charges $30.00 for removal with city equipment and $5.00 per day storage, plus any private-tow fees.
