Southampton, NY Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Rather than one townwide 'no parking on the street' rule, the Town of Southampton regulates on-street parking outside the incorporated villages through a long list of hamlet-specific bans codified street by street in Town Code Article V, §§ 312-7 through 312-49.4. Section 312-19, covering Riverside and Northampton, bars parking within the traveling surface of the Riverside traffic circle and within 50 feet of any road intersecting it, on both sides of Nugent Drive near Peconic Avenue, and along Center Drive South for roughly 1,600 feet, among other listed segments.

Section 312-20 imposes a parallel list of more than 30 no-parking locations in Hampton Bays alone, covering stretches of Ponquogue Avenue, Montauk Highway, County Road No. 80, Newtown Road and the approaches to the Ponquogue Bridge. Sections 312-21 through 312-49.4 repeat the pattern hamlet by hamlet, from Quiogue and Riverside through Flanders and Northampton, each amended repeatedly by individual local laws as the Town Board adds or removes blocked segments. Article IX, § 312-50, also authorizes 30-degree diagonal parking on designated roads in Hampton Bays, Sagaponack and East Quogue once signs and markings are posted.

Southampton Town Police and the Department of Public Safety's Ordinance Enforcement officers issue tickets for violations. Under § 312-79B(1), any violation of Article V through Article IX carries a penalty of not less than $25 nor more than $75 per offense, and under § 312-80 an unpaid fine doubles if not paid within 60 days of the first scheduled court appearance and triples after 90 days, with the Southampton Town Justice Court empowered to adjust those deadlines.
