Lyon County, NV Public Conduct: Public Alcohol Use (2026)

Lyon County Code section 14.04.13, in the conduct chapter of the County Parks title, addresses alcohol and controlled substances together but with different tests. Subsection A bars possessing any can, bottle or other receptacle containing an alcoholic beverage that has been opened or has its seal broken, but only within an area of a county park facility that has been posted as nonalcoholic; parks or sections of parks that are not posted that way are not covered by this particular ban. Subsection B separately bars possessing or using any controlled substance if Nevada Revised Statutes chapter 453 prohibits it, in any county park facility, without regard to posting.

The posting mechanism ties into the director's broader authority under the parks title: the director sets rules for individual parks and posts them conspicuously, so which areas are alcohol-free varies by facility and by whatever the Community Development and Parks division has designated, rather than by a single countywide line drawn in the statute itself. This section sits among other park conduct rules in Chapter 4, including glass-container and littering restrictions and the disturbing-the-peace section, and like those provisions it is enforced as a misdemeanor under section 14.08.01, which declares any violation of Title 14 or of a director-adopted rule a misdemeanor.

A permit issued for a special event under Chapter 6 can also affect whether alcohol may be served, since section 14.06.02 lists whether alcohol will be served or sold as one of the factors the director weighs before issuing an event permit.
