Lyon County, NV Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Section 14.05.05 of the Lyon County Code, in the vehicles chapter of the County Parks title, groups skateboards with bicycles, scooters and other operator-propelled vehicles or devices under one permissive rule: operation is permitted unless the director has determined that conditions are unsafe for that vehicle or device and has issued and posted an order prohibiting the activity. That means there is no blanket skateboarding ban across the county park system; instead, restrictions are location-specific and depend on a posted director's order, the same posting mechanism used elsewhere in the title for smoking and park hours.

The vehicles chapter separately regulates bicycle trails in section 14.05.06, which bars unauthorized motorized vehicles on bicycle trails and caps ride speed at 15 miles per hour except during director-authorized competitive events, and it dedicates section 14.05.07 to skateparks specifically, prohibiting anyone from bringing or operating a motorized vehicle inside a skatepark regardless of any posting. General park roads-and-parking limits in section 14.05.04 also apply, restricting skateboards, bicycles and other vehicles to roads and parking areas provided for that purpose rather than every part of a park or open space.

As with other Title 14 conduct rules, section 14.08.01 makes violating a posted restriction, or a rule lawfully adopted by the director, a misdemeanor, so riding a skateboard in a park area or skatepark after the director has posted a prohibition is a criminal offense rather than just a park-rule infraction.
