Rocklin, CA Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Rocklin Municipal Code § 12.30.020 governs skating apparatus, defined at § 12.30.010 to include roller blades, roller skates, scooters, skateboards and toy vehicles, on any public street, alley, sidewalk or other city-owned property. A skater may not pass a pedestrian at a distance closer than three feet, and if the space is too narrow to keep that gap, the skater must stop using the device until there is room to pass safely. Skating apparatus cannot operate within twenty feet of the entrance to any shop, store or commercial building while it is open for business, and being towed behind a vehicle by any mechanical device is prohibited outright; riders within a half hour of sunset or sunrise must use an arm-mounted light, reflective armband, or reflective clothing.

A separate rule, § 12.30.030, lets a shopping center owner opt in to a full skating ban on private walkways by posting specific signage, in two-inch black lettering on white background citing the Rocklin code section, after giving the police chief twenty-four hours' written notice. Section 12.30.040 makes any violation of the chapter an infraction, and § 10.28.040 separately bars riding skates, scooters or skateboards on any roadway outside a marked or unmarked crosswalk.
