Plantation, FL Sign Regulations: Window Signs (2026)

Sec. 22-65 of the Plantation Code of Ordinances, part of Chapter 22's temporary and transitory sign article, sets the coverage math for window signs on business-zoned property. A business may install one neon sign in a window, but that neon sign cannot exceed ten percent of the glazed area it is displayed in, and it may not flash or flicker; it must otherwise comply with every other sign requirement in the chapter, including the general prohibitions in Division 4 against distracting illumination. Separate from the neon allowance, general window signage (posters, decals, painted lettering, banners hung inside glass) is capped at twenty percent of the glazed area on which it appears.

Where a single window contains both a neon sign and other window signage, the code does not let the two allowances stack: the cumulative total of both types combined may still not exceed twenty percent of that glazed area. The section applies specifically to properties holding a business zoning classification, so it does not reach signage inside residential dwelling windows, which fall under the residential sign matrix in Sec. 22-43 instead. Because window signs are exempt from the permanent-sign permitting matrix, the city primarily polices this section through code enforcement complaints and routine inspections rather than a standalone window-sign permit, and a business found over the twenty-percent threshold is treated the same as any other sign code violation under Chapter 6.
