Irving requires pool fencing to comply with both the city building code and Texas Health and Safety Code Chapter 757. Barriers must be at least 48 inches high with no opening large enough to permit passage of a 4-inch diameter sphere. All gates must be self-closing and self-latching, with latches placed on the pool side. Gates must lock by padlock, combination lock, keypad, or key card. Metal posts are required for new pool fence construction. Wood posts are only permitted for replacement fences when reinforced with intermediate metal posts. Pool fencing materials must be rigid and able to support the fencing. The fence must fully enclose the pool area with no gaps.
Non-compliant pool fencing may result in stop-work orders, fines, and mandatory remediation.
