La Grange, MO Trash & Recycling: Bin Placement Rules (2026)

Section 235.010 requires the occupant of 'every dwelling unit and of every institutional, commercial or business, industrial or agricultural establishment producing solid waste' to provide containers that are 'sufficient and adequate,' kept 'in good repair,' and originally manufactured for solid-waste storage, including a lid; the area around the containers must also stay 'clean, neat and sanitary... at all times.' The requirement excludes bulky rubbish and demolition or construction waste, which § 235.020(B) treats separately and leaves to the occupant to keep from accumulating if the City is not collecting it.

Section 235.050 caps the physical container itself: anything 'manually lifted shall not exceed ninety-five (95) gallons in capacity nor weigh more than one hundred (100) pounds when full,' a limit aimed at what a collector can safely handle by hand. Timing is set separately in § 235.020(C): waste and bulky rubbish cannot 'be placed or allowed to remain at the curb or edge of an owner's property for collection' outside the window running from 2:00 p.m. the day before collection to 8:00 p.m. on collection day, after which any cart left out is an unauthorized obstruction rather than a lawful set-out.

Once loaded into a collection vehicle, the material becomes the collection agency's property under the same subsection. Section 235.020(D) puts responsibility on both the account holder and the property's owner of record, calls a violation punishable under 'Section 110.220' as printed in the Code (the general-penalty section is numbered § 100.220 elsewhere in the same Code), and separately deems any resulting mess a public nuisance the City may abate. Every day the Code is violated counts as its own offense under that subsection.
