La Grange, MO Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

La Grange City Code § 235.020(B) makes bulky rubbish collection optional rather than automatic: the City's solid waste contract may or may not include it, and when it does not, the occupant of the property is responsible for preventing accumulation and for properly disposing of or processing the material. Section 235.120 defines BULKY RUBBISH as non-putrescible solid waste from dwellings, commercial, industrial, institutional or agricultural establishments that is either too large or too heavy to be loaded into standard collection vehicles with the equipment collectors have available, distinguishing it from ordinary bagged or binned garbage.

To offset that gap, § 235.040(A)(2) obligates the collection contractor to provide two free semi-annual pickups of large appliances and other household items too large for the regular weekly pickup, scheduled for May and October each year for the life of the contract. Bulky rubbish placed at the curb is still subject to the same timing rule as regular waste under § 235.020(C): it cannot sit at the curb outside the window from 2:00 p.m. the day before collection to 8:00 p.m. on collection day, and once loaded it becomes the collection agency's property.

Anyone accumulating bulky items outside the semi-annual pickups bears responsibility for hauling the material away rather than leaving it on the property or curb indefinitely.
