Long Branch, NJ Trash & Recycling: Bin Placement Rules (2026)

Section 293-3 of the Solid Waste and Recycling chapter sets specific timing and placement rules for curbside waste. of the day preceding collection, and no one may leave an empty container on the curb, street, sidewalk or adjacent property for more than 12 hours after its contents have been collected. Section 293-3(S) requires that when placed curbside, waste cannot block or impede pedestrian or vehicular traffic and cannot extend more than three feet into the street from the curb, and it must be placed so it will not be dispersed by wind or traffic, not left loose or haphazard.

Section 293-3(Q) requires waste to be set out at the nearest curb in front of the property that generated it; the City will not collect waste placed in front of a different property, such as a neighbor's frontage. Containers themselves must meet the specifications in § 293-3(H): galvanized iron or heavy-duty plastic, or heavy-duty plastic bags, watertight, with handles and a tight-fitting cover to keep out insects, filled no higher than three inches below the top, kept upright and regularly disinfected. These placement and timing rules apply to municipal solid waste and bulk waste; brush and leaves have their own placement standards under § 293-3(N) and (Z) but share the same three-foot street-encroachment limit.
