Long Branch, NJ Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

Section 293-3(M) of the Solid Waste and Recycling chapter limits bulk waste pickup to residential properties; it is collected separately from municipal solid waste and no bulk item is accepted through the regular MSW program. The collection day is fixed by geography: Wednesdays on the first and third week of the month for residents south of Broadway, and Wednesdays on the second and fourth week for those north of Broadway, unless the City posts a 'no collection' notice on the website or social media. No more than eight items of bulk waste, including containers or bags, may be left out on an appropriate Wednesday, and residents cannot combine their bulk waste with a neighbor's to get around the cap.

Mattresses and box springs must be completely enclosed in durable plastic sheeting or bags and sealed before being placed at the curb, and refrigerator doors must be removed before collection. Acceptable bulk items include furniture, rugs and carpeting (cut to four-foot lengths, rolled and tied), plastic lawn furniture, wood pallets, and metal appliances such as dishwashers, washers, dryers and ovens; excluded items include bricks, concrete, car parts, closed drums, propane tanks, electronics (which must go to the Recycling Center instead), and any contractor-generated construction or demolition debris, which the resident's contractor must remove. Residents may also bring bulk items directly to the Atlantic Avenue Recycling Center with proof of residency at any time.
