Long Branch, NJ Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

Section 293-3(N) of the Solid Waste and Recycling chapter sets brush collection dates: March 15 through June 1 and September 15 through December 31. Brush must be piled at the curb no more than seven days before a scheduled, announced collection, cannot be tied in bundles, and cannot be placed within 10 feet of a storm drain, culvert or fire hydrant. Piles cannot exceed three feet into the street from the curb, and individual branches cannot exceed six inches in diameter or four feet in length, capped at 50 pounds so one person can handle them.

The maximum volume for a single collection is four feet by three feet by eight feet; larger volumes require the homeowner, contractor or landscaper to hire a private dumpster. Outside the collection windows, residents doing their own yard work must call DPW for a special pickup, while contractors or landscapers working during the off-season must haul debris to a permitted facility themselves. Grass clippings and stumps over six inches in diameter are not treated as brush and are never collected. Leaves are handled separately under § 293-3(Z): they must go in recyclable paper bags weighing no more than 50 pounds, except during April 1 through May 31 and November 1 through December 31, when the volume makes bagging impractical and leaves may instead be piled at the curb, again capped at three feet into the street.

Residents may also compost brush and leaves on their own property, but not in the required front yard, and never on adjoining private property or public property without permission.
