Sanford, FL Trash & Recycling: Bin Placement Rules (2026)

City Code § 86-127(a) governs where and when Sanford residents and businesses may stage carts for curbside or alley pickup. Containers must sit at a spot readily accessible to the contractor's truck, normally no more than eight feet from the curb or the edge of the traveled portion of an alley or street. Timing is just as specific: a cart cannot go to the curb earlier than 5:00 p.m. the evening before the scheduled collection day, and it has to be pulled back in by 7:00 p.m. on the day it is emptied, so containers cannot sit at the curb for more than roughly 24 hours around each pickup.

Collection itself runs Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. under § 86-129(a), plus four extra Saturday community cleanup day collections the city schedules in April and October. Anyone who needs a different placement location or a different set-out window, for a corner lot, a shared alley, or a physical limitation, must file a written application with the city's representative at least 30 days before the change is meant to take effect; the same prohibited-acts article separately makes it unlawful under § 86-34(5) to set containers out earlier or leave them later than those windows without such approval, and to place waste anywhere the contractor does not service.
