Blue Springs, MO Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

The Blue Springs City Code defines 'bulky rubbish' in Section 255.010 as non-putrescible waste from a home, business, industrial, institutional or agricultural establishment that is either too large or too heavy to be safely and conveniently loaded into a solid waste transportation vehicle with the equipment a collector normally carries. Because ordinary carts cannot hold it, Section 255.020(A) exempts bulky rubbish, along with demolition and construction waste, from the requirement that occupants keep all solid waste in a standard storage container, and Section 255.030(C) likewise excludes bulky rubbish from the weekly minimum pickup schedule that applies to regular household trash.

Brush and yard waste get their own handling rules instead of a container: Section 255.020(E) requires tree limbs under four inches in diameter and brush to be tied into bundles no longer than forty-eight inches and no wider than eighteen inches in diameter, with any single bundle capped at seventy-five pounds. Loose yard waste that is not bundled must go in a container built to keep clippings and debris from blowing onto neighboring lots or the public right-of-way, and Section 255.020(F) caps the weight of that container and its contents at seventy-five pounds as well.

Because bulky items and brush fall outside the standard weekly cart service, Blue Springs residents arrange special handling directly with their City-licensed hauler, whose rules for special and bulky waste are set under the Solid Waste Management Director's authority in Section 255.070.
