Oakley residents receive up to two on-call bulky item pickups per year through Republic Services as part of standard residential service. Each pickup covers up to 3 cubic yards of furniture, appliances, or large household items. Scheduling is required at least 48 hours in advance.
Oakley residential customers are entitled to two free on-call bulky item collection events per calendar year as part of their Republic Services franchise service. Each event allows up to 3 cubic yards of material or approximately 10 individual items, whichever is less. Acceptable items include furniture (sofas, mattresses, tables, chairs), large appliances (refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers, water heaters - note: Freon-containing items may require special handling), carpet (rolled and tied in 4-foot sections), and bulky household goods. Not accepted during bulky pickup: household hazardous waste (paint, chemicals, oil, batteries), construction debris (concrete, tile, drywall), automotive parts, electronics containing hazardous materials (CRT TVs, some computer monitors β though some e-waste is accepted), propane tanks, ammunition, and tires. Customers must schedule pickups at least 48 hours in advance by calling Republic Services at 925-685-4711 or through their online customer portal. Items must be placed curbside the evening before the scheduled date, separated into clear categories (metal, wood, upholstered). Additional pickups beyond the two free events can be scheduled for a fee. The annual Oakley Community Cleanup events (hosted periodically) provide additional free disposal opportunities. Illegal dumping of bulky items is a serious code violation subject to fines under Oakley Municipal Code Chapter 8.10.
