Brentwood residential customers receive complimentary bulk pickups each year for items too large for the cart, such as furniture, mattresses, and appliances. Additional pickups can be scheduled for a fee. Electronics, hazardous waste, tires, and construction debris are excluded and must be taken to the appropriate facility.
Brentwood Disposal Service provides two or three on-call bulky item pickups per residential account each calendar year at no extra charge, in accordance with the city's franchise agreement under Brentwood Municipal Code section 8.16.090. Typical accepted items include couches, mattresses (bagged in plastic), tables, chairs, white goods (refrigerators, washers, dryers, stoves with CFCs properly captured), water heaters, and carpet cut into four-foot rolls. Customers schedule a pickup through the hauler's customer service line at least two business days in advance, and items must be placed at the curb by 6 AM on the scheduled day. Each pickup allows up to four items (or a volume limit equivalent to one pickup-truck load). Materials specifically excluded from bulky service include electronic waste (take to a certified e-waste collector or Brentwood's annual event), household hazardous waste (Contra Costa HHW facility in Martinez), tires (limit at county HHW), construction and demolition debris (requires a C&D bin or haul-away), and commercial quantities of anything. Leaving bulky items at the curb without a scheduled pickup is illegal dumping under Brentwood Municipal Code Chapter 8.12 and subject to administrative fines starting at 100 dollars. Multi-family property managers arrange bulk service directly with the hauler for their complexes, and illegal dumping in apartment dumpster enclosures is a common enforcement issue.
