Hutto, TX Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Hutto Code of Ordinances § 24.03.004(a) requires every person owning, managing, or renting residential property to keep a container, made of galvanized metal or plastic with handles and a securely fitting, rodentproof and flyproof lid, holding between 20 and 32 gallons, with trash also allowed in sturdy, securely fastened plastic bags. Subsection (c) sets the collection mechanics: the city collects residential refuse on a fixed weekly schedule, except when a holiday falls on a collection day, and residents must place containers at the curb before 7:00 a.m. on the collection day.

Bulky yard waste such as tree limbs, paper boxes, and scrap lumber that won't fit in a container must be tied or stacked in compact bundles, with limbs cut to no more than three feet long and six inches in diameter; leaves and grass clippings go in containers or plastic bags. Commercial collection is separately addressed in § 24.03.005. Section 24.03.007 requires any private hauler collecting refuse from Hutto establishments to hold a city franchise, with a franchise fee of 10% of gross revenues payable quarterly; residents may still haul and dispose of their own refuse without a franchise.

Every occupied residence pays a monthly sanitation charge under § 24.03.015(a) regardless of whether refuse is set out or recycling used that month, and the charge is folded into the water bill under § 24.03.015(d) rather than itemized separately. Users outside the city limits pay 1.5 times the standard rate under § 24.03.015(c).
