Hutto, TX Trash & Recycling: Pickup Rules & Schedules (2026)

Section 24.03.004(c) of the Hutto Code of Ordinances puts the burden of curbside timing on the resident: containers must be at the curb prior to 7:00 a.m. on 'the day or days established for collection,' with the sanitation superintendent's office assigning that day by route rather than the printed code naming one citywide date. The same subsection folds in tree limbs, paper boxes and scrap lumber that will not fit in a container, requiring residents to tie or stack them in compact bundles, with limbs cut to no more than three feet long and six inches in diameter.

Containers themselves must meet the galvanized-metal-or-plastic, 20-to-32-gallon standard set out in § 24.03.004(a), and § 24.03.006 makes it unlawful for anyone other than a city employee, the owner, or a licensed contractor to handle material once it is out for pickup, protecting the route from scavenging. Collection itself is a franchised city service under § 24.03.007, so residents cannot contract around the assigned day by hiring an outside hauler unless they are disposing of their own refuse from their own premises. Failing to put a container out on time does not create liability by itself, but dumping refuse anywhere other than a proper container, including along a street or alley ahead of the pickup day, is separately banned by § 24.03.003.
