Toledo, OH Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Toledo's Division of Solid Waste runs collection under Appendix D, Regulations Governing Refuse and Recycling Collection, issued by the Director of Public Service under Toledo Municipal Code Section 963.23. Section 201 sets the base schedule: solid waste collection is provided once per week, and recycling collection every other week. Solid Waste days are assigned by color and recycling collection weeks are assigned by number, so a household's pickup day stays fixed while its recycling week alternates on a citywide cycle. Crews collect from the point of pick-up, either at curb or alley line for all properly containerized material, meaning refuse and recycling must be in the City-issued gray and blue automated containers described in Sections 203 and 207 to be picked up on the assigned day.

The schedule applies to residential accounts. Section 201 states the program is designed for residential service to the City's residents, but also allows some small businesses to be serviced along with multi-unit dwellings of four and under. Larger operations fall outside this residential schedule: Article IV (Section 401) requires commercial businesses, institutions and multi-family buildings of five units or more to contract with their own private hauler unless the Director of Public Service agrees otherwise.

Residents get their specific color day and recycling week from the Solid Waste Division; the ordinance itself only fixes the once-weekly/every-other-week structure and the color/number assignment method, not calendar dates, since those shift with the annual route and the holiday adjustments covered separately in Section 202.
