Toledo, OH Trash & Recycling: Holiday Pickup Schedule (2026)

The City of Toledo posts its current holiday rule on its Trash and Recycling page under the heading "2026 Holiday Delays." The sentence reads: "Trash collection will be delayed by one day for only the following holidays:" It then lists New Year's Day, Thursday, January 1; Memorial Day; Labor Day, Monday, September 7; Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 26; and Christmas, Friday, December 25. Thanksgiving and Christmas are the year-end entries.

The page does not print a make-up day. It does not say whether the one-day delay reaches only the route that falls on the holiday or carries through the rest of that week. The only New Year's Day entry is the 2026 date, and the page posts no 2027 list, so New Year's Day 2027 (Friday, January 1, 2027) has no entry on the city page. Veterans Day (Wednesday, November 11, 2026), Christmas Eve (Thursday, December 24, 2026) and the Friday after Thanksgiving are absent from the list, which is introduced with the word "only." The page also links a "2026 Recycling and Trash Pickup Schedule" calendar and a "Find your trash pickup schedule" lookup.

Appendix D of the Toledo Municipal Code holds the Director of Public Service's Regulations Governing Refuse and Recycling Collection, issued with the approval of the Mayor under TMC 963.23 and Section 104 of the City Charter (Appendix D § 101). Section 202 lists the holidays the City observes, including New Year's Day (observed), Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President's Day, Good Friday, Columbus Day, Veteran's Day, the Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve (observed) and Christmas Day (observed). It then sets a rolling rule: after each city holiday, collection days leap ahead to the next business day and stay there until after the next holiday, a pattern the section says repeats 11 times. That rule names refuse and recycling. The city page names trash only and never mentions Appendix D, so no printed text reconciles the two.

The city says the Sept. 1, 2026 agreement with Republic Services left schedules alone: "There is no change to collection schedules, cart service, recycling guidelines, or bulk waste pickup." Trash is collected weekly, recycling every other week, and up to 5 bulk items go out with the regularly scheduled trash pickup.
