Alameda County Industries (ACI) provides weekly curbside collection of garbage, recycling, and organics to Alameda households under an exclusive City franchise. Service is bundled in one integrated quarterly rate. Carts must be out by 5 a.m. on the collection day; collection runs Monday through Friday.
Solid waste collection in the City of Alameda is provided exclusively by the City's franchised hauler, Alameda County Industries (ACI). Garbage, recyclables, and organics are collected together in a single integrated quarterly rate that also covers the City's Used Oil/Filter Collection Program and the on-call cleanup program. ACI's Alameda residential service is weekly; residents are directed to know their specific collection day (available via their ACI account) and to have carts at the curb by 5 a.m. that day. Per ACI's set-out guidance, carts face the street with wheels against the curb, sit at least three feet apart, and stay clear of parked cars and obstacles, and residents leave them at the curb until emptied because trucks can arrive at different times each week. The City's solid waste rules are codified in Alameda Municipal Code Chapter XXI (Solid Waste and Recycling). Service rates are set under ACI's franchise agreement with the City and are adjusted periodically (for example, a scheduled rate increase took effect July 1, 2026). A standard 32-gallon garbage cart bundle was listed at $152.41 per quarter, with discounted senior/low-income rates available. Questions about service, day, or rates go to ACI at 510-483-1400.
Failing to subscribe to required collection service, or setting out unaccepted materials, may lead to County ORRO enforcement (below) and ACI service issues. Set-out timing and placement follow ACI rules.
