Ashwaubenon, WI Trash & Recycling: Recycling Requirements (2026)

Section 18-2-27 of the Ashwaubenon Municipal Code sets the terms of the village's curbside recycling program. Once a residential property, up to and including a four-unit building, is served by a recycling route, participation isn't optional: the ordinance states plainly that curbside recycling is mandatory and residents will be required to comply. The Department of Public Works collects comingled recyclables and paper once every two weeks, at no charge, using a single 65- or 95-gallon container that the village prescribes; a resident who needs a replacement cart has to buy it from the village.

Recyclables have to be separated, handled, prepared, contained and stored in line with the rules the operations superintendent publishes, and the material itself has to sit at least three feet away from the household's other solid waste containers on the regular refuse collection day, so automated trucks can tell the streams apart. The materials that must be kept out of the trash in the first place, batteries, appliances, waste oil, yard waste, glass, cans, paper, and rigid plastics, are listed separately in § 18-3-11, which defines what counts as recyclable for compliance purposes; § 18-2-27 is the collection-service side of the same program, run in two-week cycles alongside the weekly § 18-2-25 trash pickup.

A property that sends its waste to a Wisconsin DNR-licensed recovery facility can be exempted from the separation duty under § 18-2-30, but the curbside collection service described here still applies to it.
