Plantation, FL Trash & Recycling: Recycling Requirements (2026)

City Code Chapter 10, Article I defines Plantation's curbside recycling framework in Section 10-1. "Recyclables" means Recyclable Materials that are capable of being processed at the City's Designated Recycling Facility, that are Source Separated Recyclables, that are included within the City's residential collection recycling program as established (and from time to time expanded or restricted) by the City, and that are Set Out for Collection. Source separation only requires residents to keep recyclables apart from other Solid Waste; the Code does not require sorting recyclable types from each other.

Materials go out in a Recycling Cart, a 65- or 95-gallon wheeled container with a tight-fitting hinged lid used for automated or semi-automated collection, or in a Recycling PAYT Bag, the City-approved plastic bag or liner for curbside recyclables. of Florida, and its authorized subcontractors to collect and transport these materials from Plantation property. All Persons must follow the Franchise Agreement's Set Out requirements for materials collected under it. Section 10-9 separately protects the program's infrastructure: removing recycling containers, recycling plastic bags, or the recyclable materials placed in them, or taking materials from designated collection locations such as the City's trash disposal station and public works garage, without prior City authorization is treated as a violation of Florida's resource and recovery management program under Chapter 403, Florida Statutes, not merely a local infraction.
