Plantation, FL Trash & Recycling: Bin Placement Rules (2026)

Section 10-6(a) requires every Qualified Solid Waste, Recovered Materials, and Recyclables container, whether an Automated Cart, toter cart, Mechanical Container, or garbage can, to be sized for biweekly collection, watertight, fitted with a tight cover, and never smaller than 20 gallons (collectively "storage containers"). Garbage cannot be collected or stored loose in an open box, can, bag, or open Collection Container. When a container isn't out for pickup, it must sit in an area the City has designated for storage, in the location set by the property's development order or Site Plan Approval, or somewhere not visible from adjacent rights-of-way and reasonably screened from neighboring property, as determined by Planning, Zoning, and Economic Development or by the Contract Administrator.

Subsection (b) bars overfilling: lids on Collection Containers and storage containers must close securely, and PAYT Bags must be tied shut rather than left open. Subsection (c) requires containers set out for service to sit where the Franchisee's trucks can reach them, on a paved, level surface able to support the collection vehicle's weight. Subsections (d) and (e) forbid using another Customer's container or setting waste out on property you don't own or occupy without the owner's or occupant's prior approval. on the calendar day before the Scheduled Collection Day, and Automated Carts must be returned to their screened storage area, out of view from the public right-of-way, no later than midnight of the Scheduled Collection Day itself. Customers must otherwise follow the Franchise Agreement's own Set Out requirements under subsection (h).
