Recycling service is mandatory and billed for every Sunrise household, collected weekly in a city recycling cart. Put only empty, clean, dry cans, glass, plastic bottles, flattened cardboard, and paper loose in the cart — no bags.
Under Code Sec. 12-12, source-separated recyclables must go in the recycling cart, never mixed with garbage and never in plastic bags. The monthly recycling charge is mandatory for all residential customers regardless of use (Sec. 12-16). The city's Recycle Right list accepts aluminum and steel cans, glass containers of all colors, plastic bottles and containers, flattened cardboard, and paper — all empty, clean, and dry. It rejects food-contaminated items, foam, plastic bags, bubble wrap, clothes, toys, housewares, and mixed-material items. For added convenience, residents may drop single-stream recyclables 24/7 outside the Gas Administration Building at 4401 NW 103rd Avenue.
Bagging recyclables, commingling them with garbage, or contaminating the cart with non-recyclables violates Sec. 12-12; contaminated carts may be left uncollected and repeat violations draw code enforcement action.
