Tamarac, FL Trash & Recycling: Recycling Rules (2026)

Tamarac Code § 19-26(d) extends the same compulsory-service structure that governs trash to recyclables: every owner, tenant or resident of a residential service unit, including single-family homes, duplexes, triplexes, townhouses and multi-family buildings, must use the city's franchise solid waste and recovered materials hauler for recycling collection, and the property owner is responsible for paying that portion of the bill. The franchise guarantees a floor of one recovered-materials pickup per week, separate from the twice-weekly trash floor set in § 19-26(a). Recycling in Tamarac is therefore not a service residents can decline in favor of an outside recycler or a do-it-yourself drop-off plan; the franchise agreement recorded with the city clerk under § 19-26(e) gives the hauler the exclusive right to collect recovered materials from every residential and multi-family address, present and future.

Enforcement starts with a notice to comply under § 19-30(a). If an owner or tenant keeps ignoring the recycling program after that notice, or if someone engages in the unauthorized collection of recycling materials, meaning pulling recyclables out of bins for resale without the city's franchise hauler agreement, § 19-30(b) sets a fine of not less than $100 nor more than $500, or up to 90 days in jail, or both, and treats each day of the violation as a separate offense.
