Tamarac, FL Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

Tamarac's residential property maintenance standards, City Code Section 9-130(e)(5), require that bulk trash sit only in the swale area of the property and only within the window the city schedules for collection. Homeowners cannot set bulk items out more than forty-eight hours before the scheduled pickup date, and anything placed earlier is a violation of the section in its own right, independent of the volume limit. Each household is capped at four cubic yards of bulk trash per collection cycle: piles beyond that amount are not entitled to city pickup and become a maintenance violation.

Section 9-130(c) defines what qualifies: household goods such as appliances, furniture, mattresses, box springs, toys, carpet and draperies; horticultural trimmings six inches or less in diameter and six feet or less in length; small building materials like short wooden fence sections, doors, sinks and commodes; and other household, noncommercial and nonhazardous miscellaneous trash. Construction debris, hazardous waste and commercial refuse fall outside the bulk trash category and are not eligible for swale pickup under this section. The code compliance division enforces the standard along with the county sheriff's office per Section 9-130(i), and violations are heard by the special magistrate rather than a municipal court.

Because Tamarac contracts policing to the Broward Sheriff's Office, a deputy can also document a pile left too long or oversized. The rule sits inside the broader residential maintenance article adopted by Ordinance No. 2016-16, which also governs refuse container screening, hedge height and vehicle storage on the same lots.
