The alternative to paper bags is a 30-gallon garbage can with handles, no heavier than 50 lbs, tagged and identified so crews know it contains leaves. Nothing else goes in with the leaves: metal objects, plastic, concrete and rocks damage the composting equipment and end up in the compost provided to residents. The Town's page prints no fee, bag limit or loose-leaf rule.
Brush is the separate § 174-7B(1) rule: not more than four feet long and kept out of any paved area of the roadway. Section 174-6C bars depositing refuse or recyclable materials in a public right-of-way or street, and § 174-4 lists yard waste, which includes leaves, among recyclable materials. Violations & Fines
Section 174-10C makes it unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to fail to prepare materials for collection in the manner § 174-7 specifies. Under § 174-8B(6)(b), improperly prepared yard waste, or yard waste over the volume or weight requirements, will not be collected, and the resident has seven days from generation to arrange alternate collection. Section 174-12B sets a fine not exceeding $1,000 or imprisonment not exceeding 15 days, or both, per violation, and each day a violation continues is a separate violation.
