Greece, NY Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

Chapter 174 defines YARD WASTE in § 174-4 to include grass clippings, leaves, garden debris, brush, small or chipped branches, stumps and logs, with brush limited to sticks and small branches not exceeding four feet in length, tied in bundles. Section 174-7B spells out preparation requirements in detail: all brush must be cut to no more than four feet, placed neatly in piles that do not intrude into a paved roadway or block the sidewalk, and branches under two inches in diameter must be bundled with rope or twine, not wire, weighing no more than 50 pounds and no more than 16 inches across.

Leaf collection is seasonal: the Town collects leaves beginning on or about October 15 and ending on or about December 31 each year, and leaves must go out in minimum 30-gallon, two-ply paper bags suitable for a compost facility, or in containers the Commissioner of Public Works approves; wheelbarrows, lawn carts, 55-gallon drums, fiber barrels and waste baskets are explicitly disqualified as containers. Grass clippings, unlike leaves, are collected by the residential haulers year-round, must be bagged for acceptance at an authorized composting facility, and are also capped at 50 pounds per container.

Shrubs, sod, dirt, stumps and logs may be collected by the Town year-round, though a resident's hired lawn or tree service is responsible for removing debris it generates. None of these materials, in any category, may be mixed with other refuse set out for collection.
