Casa Grande, AZ Animal Ordinances: Cat Rules (2026)

Casa Grande Municipal Code § 6.04.020 requires every cat (and dog) kept, harbored, or maintained in the City of Casa Grande to be licensed once it is over four months of age. Licenses are issued by the city or its designated agents on payment of the fee schedule set out in § 6.12.080, and each license expires on the last day of the month one year after issuance. Owners must give their name, address, and telephone number and describe the animal's breed, color, and sex when applying.

A cat that is not licensed within thirty days of first possession, of turning four months old, or of arriving in the city becomes delinquent and owes the late penalty listed in the § 6.12.080 fee schedule. Before a license issues, § 6.04.030 requires the owner to present a rabies vaccination certificate signed by a veterinarian, and the animal control officer runs low-cost vaccination clinics as needed. Ownership transfers require the new owner to secure a transfer of license under § 6.04.020.F, and any cat found without its license tag is deemed unowned under subsection H, exposing it to impoundment.

Cats exhibited at shows or transported to and from such events are exempt from wearing the tag but must still be currently licensed and vaccinated. Enforcement runs through the animal control officer: § 6.04.020.E makes it a Class 2 misdemeanor for an owner who knowingly fails, within fifteen days of written notification from the animal control officer, to obtain a required license, or who counterfeits a license tag or moves one between animals.
