Casa Grande, AZ Animal Ordinances: Chickens & Livestock (2026)

Casa Grande Municipal Code § 6.06.010, effective since March 1, 2025, lets a resident of a single-family detached residence keep up to six fowl (defined as a cock or hen of the domestic chicken) in the backyard. No male fowl, including roosters, are allowed. The enclosure must sit in the rear or side yard, set back at least twenty feet from neighboring properties, cover no more than two hundred square feet, and stand no taller than eight feet, except that on a residential-community lot under one acre the enclosure may rise only to the height of the property's fence line.

Owners must pick up and dispose of or compost manure at least twice a week, keep composted manure from attracting insects, provide overflow drainage for water sources, store feed in insect- and rodent-proof containers, and keep fowl from running at large. Section 6.06.030 makes a first violation a civil offense carrying a court-imposed fine of $100 to $500, and § 6.06.040 escalates: a person found responsible for three or more civil fowl-code violations within twenty-four months who offends again is guilty of a class one misdemeanor, punishable by up to six months in jail or a fine of up to $2,500, with a mandatory minimum $500 fine per count, prosecuted by the city attorney's office in Casa Grande City Court.

Separately, § 6.08.050 requires anyone keeping horses, mules, cattle, burros, goats, sheep, or other livestock or poultry within city limits to pen them to prevent roaming, and § 6.08.070 bans keeping swine altogether except registered purebred miniature potbellied pigs under one hundred pounds, which fall under the separate limit of three per household in Chapter 6.05.
