Moore, OK Animal Ordinances: Chickens & Livestock (2026)

Section 4-104 flatly prohibits keeping and raising fowl (defined in Section 4-101 as domesticated chickens, guineas, geese, ducks, pigeons, peacocks and turkeys) anywhere in the city limits except on property zoned A1 or A2, the city's agricultural districts. Section 4-105 imposes the identical A1/A2-only rule on swine and other livestock (defined as domestic animals such as swine, horses, mules, asses, sheep, goats or cattle), but then carves out Asian pot-bellied swine or similarly small swine kept outside A1/A2 as pets: the pig must be kept purely for personal enjoyment and never for consumption, must be registered through a bona fide registry firm, no more than two per residence may be over three months old, and the animal had to be registered with Moore Animal Control by October 1, 2023 with proof of ownership such as veterinary bills.

Both sections were adopted by Ordinance 944(20) on June 15, 2020, and Section 4-105's pot-bellied swine carve-out was added by Ordinance 1032.23 on June 5, 2023. Section 4-106 separately requires any structure housing an animal to sit at least 25 feet from an apartment, hotel, restaurant, boardinghouse, food store, school, church or hospital, and 200 feet if livestock is kept there, with a covered, watertight manure receptacle required within that 200-foot band. Placement of any animal structure must also comply with Part 12's Land Development Code and Part 5's building code.
