Beaumont, CA Animal Ordinances: Microchipping (2026)

Beaumont Municipal Code § 6.02.100 covers dogs: all dogs over the age of four months must be implanted with an identifying microchip. The owner or custodian must provide the microchip number to the Department, which § 6.02.005 defines as the City of Beaumont Animal Services Department, and must notify it of any change of ownership of the dog or cat or any change of address or telephone number. The section does not replace any other licensing requirement of Title 6, so the microchip sits beside the dog license rather than substituting for it.

Section 6.02.105 handles cats differently: only cats found at large and transported to a shelter for redemption must be implanted with a micro-chip before release, and the same reporting duties to the Department apply. Section 6.02.110 lists three exemptions. A dog or cat with a high likelihood of serious bodily injury from the implant because of its health, or one whose athletic ability or performance would be impaired, is exempt with written confirmation from a California licensed veterinarian, who must state a later date if the animal can be safely implanted afterward.

A dog or cat kenneled or trained in the City but owned by someone who does not reside in the City is also exempt, and the owner must follow the licensing and rabies vaccination laws of the place where the owner permanently resides. The microchip ties into sales: § 6.02.120 requires the microchip number with any offer to sell, trade or adopt out an animal over four months, and requires the new owner's name, address and the puppy or kitten's microchip number to reach the Department within ten days of a transfer.
