Feeding alligators, sandhill cranes, and most wildlife is illegal under FL Statute 379.412. Jupiter has heavy sea turtle nesting March through October, regulated under the Florida Marine Turtle Protection Act and the Endangered Species Act.
FL 379.412 makes it a second-degree misdemeanor to feed any wild alligator or crocodile. Sandhill crane, sea bird, and manatee feeding is similarly prohibited. Sea turtle nesting is heavily regulated: Jupiter Beach and the Jupiter Inlet area are critical habitat. Lights visible from the beach must be turtle-friendly (amber LED, shielded, below 6 ft) from March 1 to October 31 under Town Code Sec. 14-52 and PBC Unified Land Development Code Article 14. Disturbing nests or hatchlings is a federal ESA violation.
Alligator feeding 500 dollars first offense. Sea turtle harassment or lighting violation 500 to 25,000 dollars civil, plus federal ESA charges up to 25,000 dollars per violation.
