Scottsdale, AZ Building Safety: Building Permits (2026)

Scottsdale adopted the 2021 International Building Code by Ordinance No. 4550, effective January 1, 2023, and § 31-5 amends IBC Section 105, Permits, to fit the City's process. 1 lets a contractor or business that regularly employs qualified tradespeople apply for a single annual permit covering minor work on an already-approved electrical, gas, mechanical or plumbing installation. 3, the applicant files with the building official along with the fee set in the city fee schedule; the annual permit expires every December 31 and must be renewed by December 15 with the renewal fee to stay active.

4 requires the fee to be refunded, and the applicant may appeal that denial to the Building Advisory Board of Appeals within 10 days. 5, after at least 10 days' written notice, with the same 10-day appeal window and no refund if the permit is pulled. 1 exempts records for machine installation/testing work, minor electrical, plumbing or mechanical repairs, and moving cases, counters or partitions under 5 feet 9 inches tall. 2 lists categories of work that never need a City permit at all, including one-story detached accessory structures like tool sheds and playhouses under 200 square feet of floor area.
