Parsippany-Troy Hills, NJ Building Safety: Electrical Permits (2026)

Electrical work in Parsippany-Troy Hills is administered under the State Uniform Construction Code by the Electrical Subcode Official, one of the officials in the Division of Construction Code Inspection and Enforcement created by § 124-1. Section 124-2 defines terms by reference to the UCC at N.J.A.C. 5:23-1 et seq. and provides that the UCC controls in any conflict, so the technical electrical standards come from the state subcode rather than a Township-written electrical code.

Section 124-5D is the Township's Electrical Subcode fee schedule. Fixtures, receptacles, switches, fractional motors, air conditioners, water heaters, detectors and communication points cost $65 for one to 10 outlets and $30 for each additional 15 outlets. Removal of an existing electrical system is $75. Services, including branch circuits, construction site pole and trailer service, sub-feeders, meter equipment and signs, are priced by amperage: $125 up to 200 amps, $175 over 200 to 400, $275 over 401 to 1,000 and $350 over 1,000. Pools, spas, hot tubs and fountains are $195 aboveground and $250 in-ground. Other lines include a residential vehicle charger at $95, an electric water heater at $65, an electrical disconnect at $65, an automatic transfer switch at $75, a generator interlock with inlet at $55, and photovoltaic systems starting at $175 for one to 50 kW. A permit item not in the schedule is $75, and the minimum fee for any permit application is $125.

Plan review is 25% of the amount charged for the construction permit under § 124-5F, and the New Jersey State permit surcharge is computed under N.J.A.C. 5:23-4.19 and paid when the permit is granted.

The National Electrical Code appears in the Township's property maintenance chapter. Section 213-40 requires every dwelling, dwelling unit and rooming unit to be connected to electric power through safely insulated conduits conforming to the National Electrical Code, and every habitable room to have a minimum of two permanently installed electrical outlets.
