Yorba Linda, CA Building Safety: Electrical Permits (2026)

Yorba Linda Municipal Code Section 15.16.010 adopts by reference the California Electrical Code, 2025 Edition, incorporating the 2023 National Electrical Code, with local amendments in Sections 15.16.020 through 15.16.060. Section 15.16.020 adds Article 95, Administration, under which Section 95.7(a) makes it unlawful to install, revise, remodel, remove, repair, enlarge, alter, relocate, add to, replace, move or connect electrical current to any wiring, fixture, appliance or equipment as part of a building or property in Yorba Linda without a filed application, an issued permit, paid fees, and the permit posted conspicuously during the work.

Section 95.2(a) requires applications to include a plan and wiring diagram showing outlets, meter locations, phase, conduit and wire sizes and circuit lengths, and mandates that plans for any 600-ampere or larger electrical service, or projects with an aggregate size of 600 amperes or more, be prepared and signed by a California-registered Electrical Engineer; load calculations from a licensed electrical engineer or licensed contractor are required for all services over 200 amperes and for all commercial and industrial projects. Section 95.3 bars the Building Division from issuing a permit for work requiring a state contractor's license unless the applicant holds that license, and Section 95.4 requires payment of fees set by City Council resolution.

Section 95.8 voids a permit if work is not commenced within 12 months of issuance or is abandoned for 180 days, and Section 95.11 requires the electrical inspector to inspect all authorized wiring, fixtures and equipment, generally within 48 hours of a written inspection request, excluding weekends and holidays.
