Bossier City, LA Building Safety: Building Inspections (2026)

Section 18-41(2)(a) of the Bossier City Code requires the building inspector to inspect construction at various intervals for any work needing a permit, with a final inspection made on every building upon completion, before a certificate of occupancy issues under sections 105 and 109. Section 18-41(2)(d) lists three required inspections: a foundation inspection made after trenches are excavated and forms are erected, a frame inspection made after the roof, all framing, fire blocking and bracing are in place and all pipes, chimneys, windows, and vents are completed, and a final inspection made after the building is completed and ready for occupancy.

Work cannot proceed past the point covered by each inspection without the building inspector's written approval, and reinforcing steel or structural framing cannot be covered up without that approval either, under section 18-41(2)(e) and (f). The permit holder must post the building permit card at the front of the premises, protected from weather, until the certificate of occupancy issues, and must post municipal and lot numbers at least three inches high in a contrasting color under section 18-41(2)(b)-(c). Section 18-42 then bars occupying a new building, or changing its use, until the building inspector and zoning administrator issue a certificate of occupancy following that final inspection; a temporary certificate can cover a portion of a building that can safely be occupied before the whole project is finished.
