Berwyn, IL Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Vending Zones (2026)

Berwyn controls where a mobile vendor can stay through Section 860.05 of the Berwyn Code of Ordinances rather than through a map of designated vending zones. Chapter 860 states its purpose plainly: so that there is not an unreasonable interference with pedestrian and vehicular traffic and so that the activities of the peddler or solicitor do not unreasonably burden any particular property owner, business or area. To achieve that, no person may peddle or solicit for more than 30 minutes within the same block in any day.

The code defines the unit. BLOCK means that portion of a street, including both sides, measured between two other streets that either intersect or junction with the street. A vendor who parks on the north side of a block and then moves to the south side of the same block has not reset the clock, because both sides count together. The 30 minutes is measured per day, so a second visit to the block on the same day counts against the same limit.

Who counts as a peddler comes from § 860.01. PEDDLING is the sale or offering for sale of property for immediate delivery from other than a fixed place of business on private property. Two exclusions exist: the sale of religious books or pamphlets, and sales of goods by charitable organizations for charitable purposes on not more than one day in a calendar year. A truck or cart selling food for immediate delivery fits the definition.

Itinerant vendors, the temporary sellers who operate from a rented room or structure for up to 120 days, are exempt from the block limit because § 860.01 excludes them from § 860.05. Mobile food sellers must still hold the § 860.02 license.
