65 of the Schaumburg Village Code permits home occupations as an accessory use in every residence district, but the Director of Community Development approves them only against a long list of standards designed to keep the operation "clearly incidental and secondary" to residential use. The owner must reside in the home where the business runs, and the business plus any related storage is capped at 160 square feet of the principal structure and garage combined, with no occupational use permitted in any other accessory building.

No structural alterations, new equipment installations, or separate entrances may be added for the business, and all activity and storage must stay entirely indoors: outdoor storage is banned outright. Deliveries are limited to vehicles typical of parcel or letter carriers, and semi-tractor/trailer deliveries are prohibited entirely. A business that cannot meet every standard in subsection (A), that involves food handling, care of animals or humans, more than one home business per lot, or more than eight daycare children, must instead obtain a special use permit under subsection (B), which lapses automatically if ownership transfers or the business goes dark for six continuous months.

If the property sits within a homeowners' association with binding rules on home businesses, the association's written approval is required before the Village will even consider the application, and the property owner of record must consent in writing if different from the applicant. "
