West Hartford, CT Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Section 168-13B(1)(b) lists parking a commercial vehicle and/or truck in any residential zone as a prohibited act, but the code builds in a working exception: the ban does not apply while the vehicle is there for the purpose of delivery, service, or business calls, so a moving company, plumber, or delivery van can park temporarily to complete the job. Outside of that exception, the standing prohibition targets commercial vehicles parked or stored in residential zones after hours or for extended periods rather than legitimate work stops.

This prohibited act shares its penalty with the other acts grouped in Section 168-13B, including the snow-emergency and curb-distance rules: Section 168-13B(2) fixes the fine at $38, and Section 168-13D layers on an administrative fee of $2 per $10 of the fine. Section 168-13E adds that every 20-foot segment of a vehicle, or a vehicle and attached trailer, counts as a separate violation with its own cumulative fine, which matters directly for oversized commercial trucks. An owner or operator has 14 days under Section 168-16 to pay the Revenue Collector before the fine doubles, and can contest the citation under Section 168-17. The rule is enforced alongside the general zoning parking restrictions in Section 168-13B(1)(d), which separately bars parking in violation of Chapter 177, Zoning.
