West Hartford, CT Parking Rules: Snow Removal Parking Rules (2026)

Section 168-13B(1)(a) makes it a prohibited act to park in any area designated as a temporary no-parking zone for the purpose of removing snow and/or ice, giving West Hartford's traffic authority the power to clear vehicles from streets during and after storms without needing a fresh ordinance for each event. This sits within the same subsection as several other parking acts, including parking a commercial vehicle in a residential zone and violating curb-distance rules, all of which share a single penalty: Section 168-13B(2) sets the fine at $38 per violation, a level noticeably higher than the $16 townwide overnight parking fine in Section 168-13A.

On top of the $38 base fine, Section 168-13D adds an administrative fee of $2 for every $10 of the fine, or fraction of it, charged to whoever receives the citation. Section 168-13E further provides that every 20-foot segment, or fraction of it, of a vehicle or a vehicle-and-trailer combination parked in violation counts as an additional violation with its own cumulative fines and fees, which can multiply the cost for a long vehicle or trailer left in a posted snow-emergency zone. As with other parking tickets, Section 168-16 gives the owner or operator 14 days to pay the Revenue Collector before the penalty doubles, and Section 168-17 allows the ticket to be contested.
