Pontiac, MI Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Pontiac's loading-zone rule, City Code § 114-66, sits in Article IV, Division 1 alongside the City's general stopping-standing-parking rules and is enforced by the Police Department. Subsection (a) covers passenger zones: a driver may stop only for the expeditious loading or unloading of passengers while the zone's posted hours are in effect, and even then for no more than three minutes; any longer stop, or a stop for any other purpose, violates the section. Subsection (b) covers commercial loading zones, restricting stopping, standing or parking there to the expeditious unloading and delivery or pickup and loading of materials during the hours the zone's posted regulations apply.

The same subsection directs that where a property has alley access available for deliveries, the City will not designate a street-side loading zone for it at all, pushing commercial loading to the rear alley instead. Related sections in the same division reinforce the loading carve-out: § 114-62(a) allows a driver to stop temporarily during actual loading or unloading of passengers even where the ten-foot roadway clearance rule would otherwise apply, and § 114-68(c) lets vehicles with a City permit back into the curb to load or unload merchandise at posted hours.

Together these sections give Pontiac's commercial loading zones a narrow, time-and-purpose-limited character: they are not general parking spaces, and using one to wait, shop or run an errand beyond the posted loading purpose is a violation even within the zone's posted hours.
