Pontiac, MI Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

City Code § 114-162, in Division 6 (Commercial Vehicle Parking) of Chapter 114, prohibits parking any "commercial vehicle, bus, taxicab, trailer ... motor home, pickup camper, trailer coach ... recreational equipment, or limousine" on a residential street or service drive in the City of Pontiac "at any time, including Sundays and holidays," with only a one-taxicab exception for a resident lacking a front-yard driveway. Section 114-165 then carves out the RV-specific exception: a motor home, pickup camper, or coupled trailer coach "may be parked on any residential street, for up to 24 hours, only during the loading or unloading of such vehicle for the purpose of trip preparation or trip completion." Outside that 24-hour loading window, § 114-162's ban controls.

Section 114-164 lists other general exceptions, such as active loading/delivery, a licensed contractor's service call, emergency service, active public-works or construction use, a disabled vehicle, or a vehicle avoiding conflict with law enforcement, any of which could momentarily cover an RV. The same vehicle types get only two hours on a commercial street under § 114-163. Because Division 6 sets no specific fine, a violation defaults to Chapter 114's own penalty clause at § 114-4: a civil infraction capped at $100.00 plus costs if the Michigan Vehicle Code treats it as one, or otherwise a fine up to $500.00, up to 90 days' imprisonment, or both. Ordinance No. 2383, adopted July 6, 2021, enacted the current Division 6 scheme.
