Pottstown, PA Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Section 407 is Chapter 15, Part 4's loading-and-unloading rule, last amended by Ordinance 2134 in 2015 after four earlier amendments dating back to 1999. Its baseline rule is a flat ban on standing on the roadway side of a curb-parked vehicle, the classic definition of double parking, anywhere in the Borough. The exception is a long, street-by-street list of named curb segments where loading and unloading is permitted: stretches of Adams Street, Beech Street, Buttonwood Alley, Charlotte Street, Hanover Street, High Street, King Street and Manatawny Street, among others, each described by an intersection or a measured distance from one.

m. Outside the named list and named hours, standing to load or unload is not authorized, and even within a named zone the vehicle may stand 'for no longer than necessary,' so a truck idling well past the time it takes to move goods is back in violation. This section is distinct from the general double-parking ban in Section 402, Subsection 1H, which applies everywhere without the loading exception, and from the residential permit program in Section 409, which governs who may park longer than the posted limit rather than where loading is allowed.
